Preview: John Mattor & "The Memory of Trees"
Kicking off our 2018 program season on April 17th will be John Mattor, Hollis Conservation Commission Chairman, who will present a fascinating program on the “The Memory of Trees”.
Putting his whole heart and soul into the Hollis Indian Cellar project, John has been its driving force, involved at all stages in buying, writing and promotion, as well as designing the park. A man of many interests, he says that “his worse curse is that he is interested in everything”! Sharing that he has always had an interest in botany, he says that he has been gardening for 81 years, ever since he was 5 years old!
Trained as a Ph.D. chemist with a Masters in chemical engineering, John holds 24 patents. For many years, he worked in S. D. Warren Research. When reminded that Brent Hill enjoyed his student summer work under John at S. D. Warren, John replied, “Good...I think they all did—I gave them quite a lot of latitude!”
Balancing many varied interests, John still likes to give numerous talks on different subjects. We look forward to his BHHS presentation exploring the old science of Dendrochronology and the past environmental history events and dates found in his well researched study of tree rings!
Please see the program listings for more information.
